Hi there folks - I’m Karli
Photography has punctuated my life from a young age.
My first foray into the realm of a dark room, rocking trays and getting used to the comfortable funky smells of the high school darkroom was with an eccentric teacher, Mr Conquest. A man I am grateful for until this very day for allowing us to put the prescribed media class curriculum to one side in favour of handing out rolls of Agfa and cameras with film winders for us to wander around the school grounds with each lesson.
What followed was a brief stint as a wedding assistant whilst also studying part-time at Photography Studies College - a fabulous education in directing subjects, crowd control and exploiting the best full shade available in any given situation. Whilst I now only admire the work of our local wedding specialists, I see my early time carrying heavy bags and wrangling light reflectors as character building!
Now my work has grown a life of its own really - I find myself being called upon to tell human stories, to bear witness if you will. I also feel my connection to climate action, social enterprise and grassroots community initiatives deepening with each trip around the sun. Each project is unique - I don’t prescribe a particular style or treatment. Life isn’t homogeneous and your images shouldn’t be either. Colour, light and shade - line, shape and form. Photography is part photographer and part universe. Eyes at the ready, mind open.
Let’s tell your story.
